Paradigms: The Lens That Shapes Your Child’s Future

Diagram showing the See–Do–Get model that explains how changing paradigms changes actions and results, taught in the Champions Character Programme at Kicx Academy.

The See–Do–Get model shows how what we see shapes what we do and ultimately what we get.

Have you ever noticed how two people can look at the exact same situation, yet see something totally different? That’s because we don’t see the world as it really is — we see it as we are.

This is what Stephen Covey calls a paradigm. It’s like the lens we look through. And here’s the powerful part:

👉 What we see shapes what we do.
👉 What we do shapes what we get.

That’s the See–Do–Get model.
When we change the way we see things, it changes our actions — and ultimately, the results we get in life.

This isn’t just theory. It’s one of the most important ideas at the very heart of our Champions Character Programme.

A Story That Explains It All

If you do one thing today, please watch this short video of Stephen Covey himself explaining paradigms and the See–Do–Get model:

In the video, Covey tells the story of being on a train, frustrated by some children who were being disruptive. His irritation grew — until he discovered the real reason behind their behaviour. In that moment, his paradigm shifted.

Suddenly, what he saw was different.
That changed what he chose to do.
And it completely changed the result.

This story perfectly illustrates why paradigms matter more than attitude. A great attitude in the wrong paradigm still takes you in the wrong direction. But when your paradigm shifts, everything else changes.

This is exactly what we do in our Champions Character Programme. We focus on shifting children’s paradigms — the way they see themselves, their challenges, and their opportunities. Once that changes, their actions and results follow.

The 5 Paradigms We Live By

As a fully recognised Leader in Me school (a journey that has taken me over 9 years to achieve), Kicx Academy is proud to teach these five powerful paradigms — not just to children, but to families.

Here’s how they connect to what we do in Champions Character:

  1. Paradigm of Leadership – Everyone Can Be a Leader
In our classes, every child has the chance to lead — whether it’s running a warm-up, encouraging a partner, or setting a personal goal. Leadership isn’t about being “the boss”; it’s about influence, service, and setting the right example.
  2. Paradigm of Potential – Everyone Has Genius
We celebrate each child’s unique gifts. Some shine with focus, others with energy, others with kindness. By recognising and developing these strengths, children begin to see themselves differently — as capable, valuable, and confident.
  3. Paradigm of Change – Change Starts with Me
Instead of waiting for others to change, we empower students to take responsibility. When they’re proactive (Habit 1), they realise they can choose their response to challenges — in class, at school, and at home.
  4. Paradigm of Motivation – Empower Students to Lead Their Own Learning
Champions Character isn’t about spoon-feeding. We teach students to set their own goals, track their progress, and celebrate their wins. When kids own their learning, the results are incredible.
  5. Paradigm of Education – Families and Educators Partner to Develop the Whole Person
Kicx Academy isn’t “just” a martial arts club. We are a Personal Development Centre where families join us in guiding children to become their best selves — in fitness, focus, confidence, and character.

Why This Matters for Parents

Understanding paradigms helps children see themselves differently. When a child begins to see themselves as capable, confident, and resilient, they begin to do the right things — and that leads to amazing results in their life.

This is the transformation we see every week in our Champions Character Programme.
