Steve Harvey’s message on vision and courage connects beautifully with the Champions Character approach at Kicx Academy.
Every now and then, something from my personal life connects beautifully with the work we do here at Kicx Academy. This week, I watched a Steve Harvey video where he spoke about two scriptures that have shaped his own journey:
-
- Habakkuk 2:2 — “Write the vision and make it plain…”
-
- James 4:2 — “You have not because you ask not.”
Now, let me be clear:
I’m not here to convert anyone.
That’s not what this blog is about, and it’s not what Kicx Academy is about.
But I am a Christian — I don’t attend church as often as I’d like — yet time and time again, the principles I love teaching children seem to lead back to the Bible. It doesn’t surprise me that Stephen Covey (author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, a huge influence on our Champions Character programme) was also a deeply Christian man.
Wisdom is wisdom… wherever it comes from.
And these two scriptures fit perfectly with the life skills we teach.
“Write the Vision and Make It Plain” — Habakkuk 2:2
This old scripture is as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago.
It simply means:
-
- Create clarity.
-
- Put your dream into words.
-
- Make your direction simple enough that anyone can follow it.
Children thrive on clarity.
Adults do too.
At Kicx Academy, our written vision is crystal clear:
The Champions Trifecta
Focus
Skill
Belief
This is our roadmap.
Our “vision on tablets.”
Our simple path that children can run with.
We don’t complicate it.
We make it plain.
Because when a child can see the way forward, they gain momentum. And momentum creates confidence.
“You Have Not Because You Ask Not” — James 4:2
This scripture is about courage.
Once you know the vision…
Once you’ve made it plain…
The next step is simple:
Ask.
Ask for help.
Ask for support.
Ask for the next challenge.
Ask to grow.
This doesn’t mean demanding or expecting life to hand things over.
It means having the courage to step forward and say, “I’m ready.”
We see this all the time in our classes:
-
- A shy child asks to lead warm-ups.
-
- A nervous student asks to try again.
-
- A young teen asks to join sparring for the first time.
That one question — that tiny act of courage — can completely change a child’s sense of self-belief.
The Champions Character Connection
These two scriptures create a life-changing formula:
Write the vision.
This is Focus.
This is Habit 1 & Habit 2.
This is knowing where you want to go.
Ask for the next step.
This is Skill.
This is Belief.
This is courage in action.
You don’t have to share my faith to benefit from the message. These are universal principles — clarity, courage, consistency — and they help children grow into confident, grounded young people.
It’s exactly why Kicx Academy is more than a martial arts school.
We are a Child Development Centre committed to character first.
A Final Encouragement
If your child is learning to:
-
- Make their goals clear
-
- Believe in themselves
-
- And have the courage to ask for the next step
…then they’re already growing into the confident, resilient young person you want them to be.
And we’re right here, ready to support that journey.
